Stranger Goes 3 for 3, Knocks in 4 in Game 1 of Split With Augie JV

The Carl Sandburg College softball team came from behind to pick up its seventh straight victory before Augustana JV took Game 2 to split a doubleheader with the Chargers on Monday afternoon.

Key Moments

  • The Chargers trailed 5-4 before scoring seven unanswered runs, plating two in the fifth and five in the sixth. A Grace Wilmington (Chillicothe, Ill./Illinois Valley Central) single and Lizzie Malcolm (Moline, Ill./Alleman) walk set the stage for Abigail Stranger (Abingdon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon), who singled to center to tie the game. After a groundout pushed Malcolm to third with two out, she scored on passed ball to give Sandburg the lead for good.
  • An RBI double from Lauryn Campbell (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) and run-scoring single from Madison Benge (Stronghurst, Ill./West Central) pushed the Chargers’ lead to 8-5 in the sixth before Stranger’s bases-loaded double cleared the bases for an 11-5 advantage.

Sandburg Standout
Stranger finished the contest a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate and knocked in a team-best four runs.

Key Moment
The Vikings scored three in the third to break a 1-1 tie and sent 12 batters to the plate in the fourth to blow the game open. Sandburg’s lone hit in the contest was a leadoff single by Benge in the second.

The Chargers (15-17 overall, 5-1 Arrowhead Conference) host Kishwaukee in an Arrowhead doubleheader at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
